Tara and Matt Hays
About the founders
Matt Hays, a Middle Tennessee builder, and Tara Hays, a construction designer, are the foundation of a hands-on building team. We invite you to get to know us and our company. Matt and Tara Hays remodeled their own home in 2008 and started remodeling and flipping homes in 2013, gaining their knowledge of how to build the best home possible. They first started in Spring Hill, Tennessee and then expanded to building new construction homes in 2017 on Tim’s Ford Lake in Winchester, Tennessee. Matt grew up on construction sites and has been in the industry for over 20 years. He is a licensed contractor in the state of Tennessee. His main focus when building is to use superior materials and detailed craftsmanship, building each house as if it were his own. Matt now also enjoys having his two sons (and daughter if she is willing) on the job site, teaching them to operate machinery and have an enduring work ethic. While Tara holds a Master’s degree in English from Belmont University, her first passion is creativity and design. She works with architects creating the best floor plans and works on the design of each home under NG Designs. Tara is also a third generation property manager and manages a small fleet of vacation rentals (see tab) and in 2024, she finally got her real estate license to better assist the company. They have combined their talents in Legacy Lake Homes LLC, specializing in designer homes in two regions: Winchester on Tim’s Ford Lake & College Grove/Thompson’s Station in Williamson County, Tennessee. The meaning behind the name “Legacy” is not just a family business, but to BUILD A LEGACY for our buyers and clients as well.
Others in the core crew are Ben Hays, Dakota Glenn, and Justin Carroll. Ben Hays is our lead project manager and builder, overseeing details from start to finish. Dakota Glenn is our design assistant, custom client coordinator, and brings cheer to the job site and office. Justin Carroll is our exterior operator, machine operator, and also manages landscaping installation.

Matt hays
Builder and Developer
Matt is a father of 2 teenagers and 1 ten-year-old. He is also the best husband and makes Tara coffee every morning. Matt’s evening drink of choice is Scotch, his favorite being Macallan 12 Year. He enjoys going to the gym, hunting, fishing, and grilling. You are sure to always find him on the move!
Ben Hays
Project Manager and Builder
Ben is one of Matt’s brothers. He is a patient mentor, cheerful, and always game for a challenge. Ben enjoys wood working in his shop, camping with his family- or relaxing at home by a bonfire, and culinary experiences.
Justin Carroll
Exterior Operations
Justin is an avid hunter. He and his dog, Bear, love to be outside hunting all types of birds. Justin is a Tennessee native, born and raised. He is also a father of 2 sweet little princesses. He and his family live in a Legacy built home!

Designer, Paperwork Pusher, and Real Estate Agent.
Tara is a homebody, she enjoys watching TV and baths. Her dream is to stay in sweatpants all weekend and hang out with Matt, their 3 kids, and 2 dogs. If she can’t do that, then she would like to be by the pool or at the beach or lake. She also loves sparkling water, Louis Vuitton, and her new office chair.
Dakota Glenn
Designer and Client Coordinator
Dakota is an amazing mom, wife, cook, and photographer. She has a long list of things she’s wonderful at! Her best dish is either chicken and dumplings or fettuccine alfredo. She graduated from Belmont University and is married her high school sweetheart.
